About the event
Thank you for your interest in Climbing Through Grief. Please read this information carefully before signing up.
WHAT IS CLIMBING THROUGH GRIEF?
Climbing Through Grief is a grief counseling support group that incorporates rock climbing as a recreative element in the healing process. Participants will meet in a small group setting for 45 minutes of talking and will then be invited to boulder as they wish (either as individuals or with other members of the group) afterwards.
WHO IS THE GROUP FOR?
Anyone age 18+ who has experienced the death of a loved one at any point in their life.
People of all climbing levels and backgrounds.
WHEN IS GROUP?
Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM for 5 weeks (November 23 - December 21).
45 minutes of talking, followed by undefined time to time.
The group is intentionally being offered during the winter holiday season, as this can be an especially difficult time for those journeying through grief.
WHERE IS GROUP?
Private group conference room, located in North Mass Boulder (Top Out Cafe upstairs).
Please note this is NOT a North Mass Boulder program. We are simply using their space.
HOW MUCH DOES THE GROUP COST?
The cost to attend group is $50 per person each week. Payment is due to Kelsee each week at the time of the group meeting (cash, credit/debit, and Venmo).
There must be a minimum of 5 participants to run this group. It is a closed group, which means once the group starts, no new members will be allowed to join.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO CLIMB?
You do not need to be a member at North Mass Boulder to participate in the group. At the time of running this group, NMB is running a 30-day free membership trail for new members.
This means, if you sign up for a free member trail on day-one of the Climbing Through Grief group, you will be a member at NMB for the duration of the program, and the only additional fee you may need to pay is your shoe rental fee (free your first time, then $4). If you do not wish to continue your membership at NMB once the program ends, you will let Kelsee know and she will make sure your membership trail is terminated before you are billed anything.
If you are already a member at NMB, you would check in like any other time you are using the facility.
Again, this program is not affiliated with North Mass Boulder. We are simply using their space.
WHO IS THE GROUP FACILITATOR?
The group is run by Kelsee Keitel of Hemlock Counseling Services. Kelsee, an outdoor-based counselor, is a nationally certified counselor, licensed mental health counselor associate, and certified family life educator-p. She also identifies as a rock climber, mountain bike rider, cyclist, and backpacker.
One of the reasons she utilizes outdoor recreation as a part of her therapeutic approach is due to the profound impact nature has had on her own healing through the death of her father. Kelsee believes anyone is capable of facilitating their own growth and. healing when given the right amount of support. She takes a soothing and strengths-based approach at tackling some of life's most difficult challenges.
